Started in 1992, ECO Canada was created as a part of Canada's Sector Council program for the environmental sector. Our goal is to ensure the prosperity of the environmental sector by working with environmental students, educators, professionals and employers.
ECO Canada is committed to increasing Aboriginal employment in the environment sector. In partnership with the Aboriginal Human Resources Council (AHRC), ECO Canada established BEAHR (Building Environmental Aboriginal Human Resources) project. Started in 2001, the BEAHR project established several career, training and employment resources for Aboriginal environmental practitioners.
We have developed community-based training programs for Aboriginal learners that are culturally relevant and skills based. Programs are designed to provide introductory skills to those who want to work in the environmental field and are delivered by approved licensed trainers from both public and private organizations.
